Kathmandu, Aug 10: Different types of saplings were planted today at the Gokarna, the construction site of National Martyr Memorial, today to mark the first Community Forest Day.
The government has first time decided to celebrate the Community Forest Day from this year in memory of handing over on August 9, 1973 the management of a national forest at Thokarpa in Sindhupalchowk to the local community.
Seventy different types of saplings were planted at Yagyadol (Jagdol) community forest (the memorial construction site) at the joint initiative of Memorial and Lions Club of Kathmandu Rising Sun.
Memorial Chairman Sudarshan Sigdel told the National News Agency (RSS) the saplings were planted as per the direction of the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation to mark the Day for three days on August 9, 10 and 11.
